The LBUSD’s Middle School Flag Football Championships were contested at Lakewood High School last weekend, with Rogers, Keller, and Franklin claiming first place in the three different divisions.
In Division 1, Rogers won a thriller over Hughes, 20-19, to win the title. The Mustangs lost 7-0 to Hughes in overtime the week prior, but got revenge when it counted to claim the top-division championship. That was the only loss of the season for Rogers, who ended up second place to the unbeaten Owls at the end of the regular season.
Rogers beat Stanford, 34-18, in the semifinal round, while Hughes earned a 19-6 win over Cubberley to reach the championship game.
In Division 2, Keller pulled off an upset with a 21-19 victory over Hoover in the title game. Hoover was undefeated coming into the title game, but third-seeded Keller handed them their first loss after an impressive playoff run.
In the semifinals, Keller earned a 19-13 win over Newcomb while Hoover was a 33-6 winner over Powell.
Finally, in the Division 3 title game, Franklin finished off a dominant 9-0 season with a 46-0 win over Nelson. The Wildcats got to the title game with a 36-6 win over Lindbergh in the semifinals, and were just as dominant during the regular season. Franklin outscored their opponents by a combined score of 311-31.
Nelson, meanwhile, reached the title game after a close 34-33 win over Tincher in the other D3 semifinal.
