It is the classic East Long Beach versus West Side battle, as the Cabrillo Jaguars take Anaheim Street to Woodrow Wilson High on Friday night in a meaningful game for both teams. Both the Jags and the Bruins will be looking to build positive momentum before facing Poly in their next contests.
Cabrillo (2-4, 0-3) will be looking for its first Moore League victory of the season. The Jaguars have been on a three game skid, with their most recent loss coming to a swarming Lakewood team last week, 55-7.
As for the Bruins, they are coming off a resounding 42-13 win over Compton last week. The Bruins are looking to hit their stride, literally and figuratively, as the running game between junior Laighton Scott and senior Christian Chapman is the “thunder and lightning” combination coaches dream about.
However, Cabrillo’s defense, led by sophomore Dylan Edwards, can create havoc that could halt Wilson, only allowing about 21 points per game this season.
In last year’s contest, Wilson defeated Cabrillo 57-7.
Kick-off is at 7 p.m. at Wilson High School; it will also be the Bruins’ Senior Night.
