Long Beach Girls’ Flag Football Preview

The high school sports landscape in California will look a little different this year, as the CIF State and CIF Southern Section office have sanctioned girls’ flag football as the newest sport in California. While there won’t be an official CIF-SS title game this year, there will be a postseason tournament to crown SoCal’s best, and with tons of schools adding programs there’s likely to be a full CIF-SS playoffs soon.

The Moore League has added the sport, with six of the seven teams in the league ready to suit up on Tuesdays in September and October to decide a Long Beach champion.

“It’s great that we get a chance to compete, a lot of us have played other sports our whole lives but have always loved football,” said Poly receiver Tiare Ho-Ching, a standout softball player who’s committed to Arizona State on the diamond.

Moore League opening day is today, as all six teams will be in action at Cabrillo from 330-630pm, and then they’ll rotate locations each Tuesday. Here’s a look at the top players for each one of these history-making programs.
