An exciting battle of 2-0 teams is on tap at the new Clark Field tonight, as St. Anthony welcomes in Dominguez for an intriguing 7 p.m. matchup.
The Saints have run over their first two opponents by a combined score of 117-29, scoring at least 55 points in each game. The rushing attack has been elite, featuring running backs JoJo Apisala and Elijah Lolesio-Pua.
However, the competition is steadily improving and St. Anthony will look to replicate that success against a Dons defense that’s only allowed six points through the first two weeks.
On the flip side, this will be the toughest opponent Domingues has faced after they steamrolled Compton Centennial and Locke by a margin of 99-6 so far this season.
When these teams met in 2022, Dominguez emerged with a 28-15 victory at St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, with the Saints unable to mount a late comeback through a third-quarter power outage.
But both these teams are very different from a season ago, and the Dons have added an influx of talent, including Long Beach Poly transfer Timmy Tuiagamoa, who is a huge hitter in the defensive secondary.
Saints fans should expect to see a much more competitive game this week, and limiting penalties and turnovers will be key for both sides.
