Wilson boy’s water polo clinched its 13th consecutive Moore League title on Wednesday at Belmont Outdoor Pool by beating Millikan 14-3. The Bruins (14-6, 5-0) came out strong and scored eight goals in the first eight minutes of the game.
“We want to constantly defend the Moore League title in the city of Long Beach,” Wilson coach Jeff Nesmith said. “We take pride in that. The guys came out fired up. Their energy in the first half put their stamp on the game. We want to give our best effort in these league games. The championship means a lot.”
Wilson’s Gray Carson scored a game-high five goals while senior Ian Escoto paced the Bruins attack with three goals, four assists, two steals and a field block.
“He leads a small senior class and he’s coming on strong at the end of the season,” Nesmith said. “He’s bringing focus and determination to practice. He’s executing and seeing the game really well. Assists are always my favorite part of the game and he threw a couple of those dimes for sure.”
Zac Crenshaw also scored a hat trick for Wilson while the Bruins defense held Millikan without a goal until there were three minutes left in the third quarter with the score 12-0. Alex Caroll, Max Miller and Connor Stine all scored for the Rams.
Wilson is traveling to NorCal this weekend for the Memorial Cup tournament featuring the top teams in California. The Bruins will play four games over two days.
