The Wilson Bruins opened the second half of Moore League play with a shutout victory on Tuesday afternoon, taking down Cabrillo by a score of 5-0 on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
Jaaden Romero got the win for Wilson, tossing five scoreless frames with seven strikeouts, only allowing a walk and a pair of hits. Rudy Carlos and Cooper George each worked around a baserunner in an inning of work out of the bullpen to close out the win.
The Bruins scored twice in the first inning, getting leadoff singles by Nathaniel Parris and Jax Core, who both came around to score and give Wilson the 2-0 lead.
Wilson added another run in the second as Adrian Marquez singled and later scored on an RBI grounder. Then Logan Smith and Ben Howard each scored in the third on a Jags error, giving the host Bruins their 5-0 lead.
Adam Rosalez pitched all six innings for Cabrillo, keeping his squad within striking distance of the first-place Bruins. Sophomore Ricky Barron led the way for the offense with a pair of base hits while Micah Afoa added a double in the seventh for the Jags.
Wilson (12-6, 7-0) will be back in league play after Spring Break, visiting Lakewood at 4 p.m. on Apr. 23. Cabrillo (2-16, 0-7) will be hosting Poly on Thursday at 4 p.m. in their last league game before break.
