For the second week in a row, Long Beach State men’s basketball came back to force overtime at home only to fall short.
LBSU rallied from a late four-point deficit to pull even with UC Davis on Thursday night at Walter Pyramid, but the Aggies dominated the extra period to hand the Beach a 73-65 loss.
This is the seventh straight loss for LBSU (7-17, 3-9) and it moves them into a tie for ninth place in the 11-team Big West Conference.
Devin Askew led LBSU with 17 points and four assists. Cam Denson chipped in 10 points while Austin Johnson scored nine points with a team-high seven rebounds.
UC Davis’s TY Johnson had a game-high 33 points after scoring 12 points in overtime.
The Aggies (13-10, 7-5) took a 20-13 lead in the first half but freshman Andrew Nagy came off the bench to spark a 12-0 run and help LBSU take a 30-29 lead into halftime. Nagy had missed the last four games with injury and finished with a career-high nine points.
The second half was close throughout and a key TJ Wainwright jumper was key to forcing overtime 59-59.
UC Davis and Johnson outscored LBSU 14-6 in overtime.
LBSU is back at Walter Pyramid on Saturday to host CSUN at 4 p.m.
