HIGH SCHOOL

Joy Anderson, Long Beach Poly Basketball

Long Beach Poly senior Joy Anderson put up a huge double-double with 20 points (10/20 FG) and 17 rebounds in the Jackrabbits’ win over Lakewood, their 206th consecutive league win and last big hurdle this season.

Makayla Quesada, Long Beach Poly Soccer

Makayla Quesada had two goals for Poly in the Jackrabbits’ massive 4-1 win over Wilson, which sets up this week’s Moore League championship game between Poly and Millikan.

Tannor Costello, Millikan Wrestling

Rams grappler Tannor Costello picked up a pin as he helped Millikan in their dual win against Wilson, which gave Millikan a 15th consecutive Moore League championship.

Ashley Hernandez, Millikan Wrestling

Freshman Ashley Hernandez bumped up a weight class and came away with a decisive pin to help Millikan defeat Wilson in their dual meet last week.

Aman Haynes, St. Anthony Basketball

Aman Haynes had a dominant night for St. Anthony with a game-high 26 points in the Saints’ win over Bishop Montgomery, which keeps the team in the Del Rey League title hunt.

Hailey Suttle, Millikan Water Polo

Millikan goalie Hailey Suttle was incredible in the second half and had eight saves in a win at Poly, which puts the Rams in second place in the Moore League by themselves.

Jeremiah Hunt, Millikan Basketball

Jeremiah Hunt had a game-high 32 points tonight for Millikan as one of five Rams in double figures as they nearly hit the century mark in a win over Jordan last week.

Jonas Oware, Long Beach Poly Basketball

Jonas Oware had another big night for Long Beach Poly, posting a double-double with 16 points (7/10 FG), 12 rebounds & 4 blocks in a win over Lakewood which keeps Poly undefeated and first in the Moore League.

An LBC native, Mike Guardabascio has been covering Long Beach sports professionally for 13 years, with his work published in dozens of Southern California magazines and newspapers. He's won numerous awards for his writing as well as the CIF Southern Section’s Champion For Character Award, and is the author of three books about Long Beach history.
