HIGH SCHOOL

Cedra Saolotoga-Talaga, Long Beach Poly Volleyball

Long Beach Poly sophomore Cedra Saolotoga-Talaga turned in a superstar performance in the CIF-SS championship, with a team-high 14 kills and 15 digs as well as a pair of aces.

Jack Brown, Millikan Cross Country

Millikan’s Jack Brown was a double champion at Moore League Finals last week. He pulled away late to secure the individual win in 15:29, and also led the Rams to the team championship.

Avery Peck, Long Beach Poly Cross Country

Long Beach Poly junior Avery Peck won her second Moore League title with a dominant run of 17:27 at Heartwell last week, and also led the Jackrabbits to their fourth consecutive team championship.

Ben Harris, Long Beach Poly Football

Ben Harris helped lead Long Beach Poly to a big win in the first round of the playoffs last week, with 132 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Deuce Weston, Wilson Football

Wilson’s Deuce Weston scored three touchdowns for Wilson in their playoff-opening win on Friday night, their first playoff win in five years.

Kade Casillas, Lakewood Football

Lakewood’s Kade Casillas accounted for three touchdowns as the Lancers went on the road to beat Valencia and advance to this week’s quarterfinals.

Aidan Jones, St. Anthony Football

Aidan Jones played a clean game at quarterback, throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown in a defensive slugfest that the Saints won.

Abraham Ramirez, LBCC Soccer

Long Beach City College was boosted through to the conference tournament semifinals partially thanks to their stud sophomore goalkeeper Abraham Ramirez, who put up a pair of shutouts last week.

An LBC native, Mike Guardabascio has been covering Long Beach sports professionally for 13 years, with his work published in dozens of Southern California magazines and newspapers. He's won numerous awards for his writing as well as the CIF Southern Section’s Champion For Character Award, and is the author of three books about Long Beach history.
