The562’s coverage of high school volleyball in 2024-2025 is brought to you by the MLP’s Bay Area Breakers.
Two Long Beach girls’ volleyball teams made the CIF State playoffs, which will begin Tuesday evening. Both squads can plan on burning a lot of gas this week if they advance.
Division II
Long Beach Poly is coming off of a thrilling CIF-SS Division 3 championship (https://www.the562.org/2024/11/09/long-beach-poly-volleyball-wins-cif-ss-championship-in-all-time-five-set-battle-against-bishop-diego/) and are seeded No. 7 in the CIF State Division II playoffs. The Jackrabbits will host No. 10 Cypress on Tuesday at 6pm.
If Poly wins, they’d face the winner of No. 2 Bakersfield Centennial and No. 15 Rancho Cucamonga. Because the higher seeds always host in the CIF State playoffs (unlike the coin flips used to determine home teams in the CIF-SS playoffs), Poly could very well be looking at a Thursday road trip to Bakersfield on Thursday.
Division III
Lakewood made the CIF State Division III playoffs by virtue of their CIF-SS semifinal run, and will open up with a very long road trip on Tuesday. The Lancers travel past Bakersfield to face Porterville; Lakewood is the No. 14 seed and Porterville No. 3. If Lakewood advances they’d face the winner of La Jolla Country Day and Granada Hills Charter on Thursday, and would be on the road either way.
