Millikan was unable to keep their run going in the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs on Wednesday, falling in their third round matchup to El Dorado 20-25, 25-20, 14-25, 21-25.
“Our girls didn’t perform our best tonight, but we didn’t give up,” said Millikan coach Antoinette De La Espriella after the game. “We kept trying to make adjustments and gave other players opportunities to step up, and they did. Our strongest offensive force was Juda Washington (on the outside), and Cali Tirado gave us some fire in the front row both defensively and offensively. Defensively in the back row we had some great hustle plays lead by Sophia Orbiso and Sara Thaut, but unfortunately couldn’t stop our opponents in time. Hats off to them on being the better team on the court tonight.”
In her first year with Millikan, De La Espriella led her Rams to a third place finish in the Moore League and a three-game run in the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs. Prior to Wednesday, the Rams earned postseason wins against Herritage Christian and Burroughs, marking their first season with multiple playoff wins in over a decade.
“I am extremely proud of my girls and this being my first year with the program has been such an incredible experience,” she added. “We beat teams in league that we previously would’ve lost too, and made a strong playoff run I believe further than our program has ever been.. history was made and we hope to continue this pursuit of success, our team and program has a bright future!!!”
