Football: Six Casillas Touchdowns Carries Lakewood Past Jordan

The Lakewood football team has been a tear the last couple weeks and Friday night was no different as Kade Casillas tossed a career-high six touchdowns as the Lancers defeated Jordan 56-6.

After winning the opening coin toss, Lakewood marched right down the field and Casillas aired it out and connected with Kenny Niumataevalu for a 52-yard touchdown to give the Lancers 7-0 with 10:30 left in first quarter.

“Proud of the way we execute it offensively,” Lakewood coach Justin Utupo said.  “The way we were able to tackle defensively, pretty clean game on on on special teams and in our kicking games. However, can’t afford to have I think I counted 17 penalties.”

The Lakewood “Red Swarm” defense continued to fire on all cylinders forcing a punt on the Panthers opening drive.

Jojo Apisala got things going on the ground on the next drive with 52 yards on the ground including a 1-yard touchdown to make it 14-0.

Jordan’s offense sputtered on the next drive and Lakewood went right back to work and this time is was Nytrell Miller got going with 31 yards on the next drive and scored to give the Lancers a 21-0 lead.

Lakewood made is 28-0 after another punt and Casillas aired it out to Tiwan Jones for a 71-yard touchdown as the junior had a career night.

After another stop Casillas tossed his third touchdown which was a 1-yard touchdown to Caleb Tafua to make it 35-0.

Casillas threw a career-high six touchdowns, completing 14 of 16 passed for 413 yards.

“just shows our uh, you know, how much people we got a depth we got on the team,” Casillas said of his outing.

Jordan wouldn’t be shutout as Kalib Tautolo found John Lim for a 19-yard touchdown to make it 49-6.

“What I’m trying to tell the kids is football is like life, right?,” Jordan coach Eric Richardson said. “This is what we the hand that we’ve been dealt got to play it, right? Keep going, keep fighting, and as far as getting the playmakers involved.”

Lakewood will be back in action against Millikan next week while Jordan takes on Compton.
