For the first eight minutes of the Millikan and Cabrillo Moore League opener, the Jaguars gave the visiting Rams everything they could handle after scoring on their opening drive.

However, Anthony League got the Rams going when they needed it, scoring four touchdowns in Millikan’s win over Cabrillo on Friday, 56-13.

“We still have to tune things up,” League said. “Even though it was a good win, we didn’t play as good as we should have been.”

Cabrillo (1-3) got off to a fast start behind sophomore quarterback Danny Lopez who found Isaiah Miranda for a 20-yard gain and then Isreal Clayton for a 17-yard gain to put the Jaguars in Rams territory. Antonio Elam took care of the rest as he scored on a 1-yard TD to give the home team a 6-0 lead with 8:25 left in the first quarter.

“This meant a lot,” Cabrillo coach Shane Gonzales said. “We challenged the boys all week. They’re bigger, they got D 1 bodies. Nobody is going to expect anything from us. We just challenged them to go out there and let them know you’re a tough team.”

Millikan answered right back behind the arm of JP Mialovski as he threw for another 54 yards and going 4/4 while League capped the opening drive for a 15-yard touchdown. After Aisa Taelelifi converted the 2-point conversion to give the Rams a 8-6 lead.

Cabrillo continued to attack the Rams defense on the next drive as Lopez connected with Clayton for a 34-yard gain before two carries for 16 yards by Lopez to put the Jaguars in the redzone. After back-to-back runs from Elam, the Millikan defense came up with a big stop on fourth down to force a turnover on downs.

“Hats off to coach and Cabrillo,” Millikan coach Romeo Pellum said.  “They came out fighting. They’re gonna be tough for some teams in our league.”

Mialovski stayed in rhythm and connected with Xavier Jones for a 49 yard gain on their ensuing drive. Mialovski then capped the drive with his second touchdown as he found Jude Nelson for a 20-yard touchdown to put the Rams up 16-6.

After Joshua Tuchek picked off Lopez, Rams marched right back down the field and League is in again for his second touchdown of the night this time a 6-yarder.

From then on it was Rams the rest of the night as League finished the game with four rushed for 65 yards and three touchdowns and added four catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Mialovski had an impressive night through the air passing for 242 yards and three touchdowns.

Millikan will be at Wilson next week and Cabrillo will be taking on Compton.
