A pair of early and a great pitcher performance were enough for Long Beach Poly to earn a 2-1 win at Sonora in the first round of their CIF Southern Section Division 3 wild card game on Tuesday.
Poly’s Ari Molina delivered the 2-RBI hit in the third inning that scored Tiare and Kiele Ho-Ching to give her team a 2-0 lead. Pitcher Lana Chao scattered five hits during a complete game performance and didn’t give up the run until the seventh inning before stopping the Sonora comeback.
“They were a really well coached team,” Poly coach Liz Sanches-Martin said of Sonora. “It was a tough and tight game, but we did all the little things needed to come out with a win. We had a game plan going in and the kids executed it perfectly.”
Poly visits Etiwanda for the first round on Thursday.
