In every season since 2019, a Moore League team has won a CIF-SS championship in boys’ track & field. That includes a title for Jordan, one for Wilson, and two for Long Beach Poly, including last season.
Each of those three schools also claimed a runner-up plaque during that span–an impressive display of parity that the league hasn’t seen since the early ‘90s. There’s plenty of reasons to believe that Long Beach will again be in the mix for trophies in the next few months, with loads of new and returning talent.

Cabrillo is hoping to see improvement from athletes working their way up to the varsity ranks in 2024, and has a good mix of veterans and promising newcomers.
“We are looking to build on the success from last year’s JV squad where we produced four Moore League champions,” said head coach Kennard Hamilton. “I’m hoping that they can be successful at the varsity level in hopes of making it to CIF prelims and possibly further.”
Senior Rodney Cheatum was the JV champ in the 200m last season, just missing out on the sprint double with a runner-up finish in the 100m by just .01 seconds. Also on the track, junior Kahliel Williams took first in the JV 110m hurdles race.
The Jags had two more JV champs in the field events, with junior Chad Washington winning the boys’ long jump and Jose Gonzalez winning the shot put.
Senior Sebastian Pardo leads the distance crew for Cabrillo, and young athletes Marcelo Ramos, Torsey Davis, and Kylan Brown are ones to watch for the future.
At Compton, junior Lenier Pitts, Jr. and seniors Jashon Finley and Monte Jackson, Jr. should lead the way for the sprinters.
St. Anthony is coming off its best season ever for its sprinters, with senior Remy Doering the lone returner from their Camino Real League champion 4×100 relay, which placed third at CIF. Sophomore Bryson Busbee is looking to compete for a league title and will join Doering in the short sprints. Senior Quinn Donaghue will specialize in the half-mile.
