Lakewood had to take a long road trip for its CIF Southern Section Division 4 opener at Rubidoux on Wednesday, but the Lancers got to celebrate on the long road home.

Lakewood’s Michael Gutierrez scored in the second half as the teams went to overtime, and then he delivered the golden goal for a 2-1 victory. It’s the first Lancers playoff victory since 2014.

The Lancers (13-3-6) host Victor Valley in the second round on Friday.
