The superstar pair of Long Beach Poly alums set another pair of NFL records on Sunday, as DeSean Jackson and JuJu Smith-Schuster are in the headlines yet again.
Jackson caught a 60-yard touchdown in the Buccaneers’ narrow loss to the Bengals on Sunday, giving him 24 60+ yard touchdowns in his career, the most in NFL history. Jackson had been tied with Jerry Rice at 23 since earlier in the season.
“Congrats DeSean, proud of you,” tweeted Rice after Jackson took control of the record.
It wasn’t a week without tumult for Jackson, who was reported to have asked the Buccaneers for a trade earlier in the week. Jackson is No. 14 in the NFL in receiving yards and is leading the NFL in yards per catch with an eye-popping 22.9 YPC.
Smith-Schuster, meanwhile, only had four catches for 33 yards in the Steelers’ easy win over the Browns on Sunday. Those 33 yards put him over 1,500 yards in his career after just 21 games, setting a new Steelers record for fastest to reach that plateau (the previous record-holder took 23 games). Smith-Schuster, who is still only 21 years old, also became the youngest receiver in NFL history to hit 1,500 yards. He’s currently No. 18 in the NFL in receiving yards.
Long Beach Poly
The Titans had a bye this week, so their Poly-led defense didn’t get to rack up any new statistics. Jayon Brown currently leads the team in tackles with 47, while Pro Bowler Jurrell Casey has 3.5 sacks, most on the team. Jamize Olawale’s Cowboys were also on the bye.
Marcedes Lewis’ Packers were in LA where they lost a close game with the Rams–it did give Lewis’ family a chance to see him in Southern California again, as he used a full contingent of tickets to get them there.
JoJo Wicker is still on Washington’s practice squad, and Kaelin Clay is still looking for a home after being released from the Giants.

Joel Bitonio’s Browns fell to the Steelers to drop their record to 2-5-1. Bitonio has been so dominant at guard and Cleveland’s tackles have been so bad that fans and sportswriters alike wondered on Twitter whether or now Bitonio might see time at the edge of the line.
Jordan
Jordan alum John Ross was inactive for yet another week due to a groin injury. John Timu continues to look for a home this year but has worked out for a few teams including the Texans.
Lakewood
Lancers alum Matt Pryor remains on the Eagles’ 53-man roster but has been inactive every week so far, including for this Sunday’s game in London.
