The Long Beach Poly boys’ volleyball team put the finishing touches on an undefeated season last week while claiming an outright Moore League title — the program’s first time accomplishing both since 2014.
“It’s just exciting for our program especially when I have alumni calling me up and are checking in to see how we’re doing,” said coach Sidney Davidson. “It’s one of those things where it gets me excited. I know we had a solid year with this team and winning the league outright is one of the cool goals that we wanted to accomplish this year.”
The Jackrabbits boast a large senior class that has slowly come together to become one of the best teams in the city. Most of them have been in the program for all four years, and they were Davidson’s first group of incoming freshmen since the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I’ve had the privilege of being around these guys for the last four years.” Davidson said. “They’re very special to me because they are my ‘Covid kids,’ I call them. They came together and understood what we wanted and made their own goals. Winning league was one of the goals we wanted this year and now we want to go after a CIF title.”
That journey of achieving their next goal in a CIF title begins tomorrow in the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs. The Jackrabbits will be at home against Windward, and the winner will face either San Marino or Canyon.
“We just need to stay focused, not change the routine, and stay locked in,” Davidson said. “That’s just the main thing.”
