Long Beach State women’s water polo made a defensive statement last week. Sophomore Chiara Amoroso had a team-high of five steals while senior goalie Chelsea Oliver had nine saves in the dominant 16-2 Big West win over Cal State Northridge. Martina Cardona led the offense with a hat trick.
No. 6 LBSU (12-9, 3-1) is back at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center this weekend against No. 10 UC San Diego on Saturday at noon, and No. 1 Stanford on Sunday at 1 p.m.
SOFTBALL
LBSU (15-12, 5-4) dropped its first Big West series of the season at Cal State Northridge last week after the Matadors won a pair of extra innings games. Sophomore Brooklyn Lee and senior Rebekah Duazo lead the team with 33 and 32 hits this season, respectively. Durazo leads the conference with a 1.191 OPS.
The Beach is at UC Davis this weekend.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
The Beach (10-3, 2-2) won two of three home matches last week. Freshman Daisy Carpenter outlasted Brooke Hess of Dartmouth in a three-set epic to clinch LBSU’s 4-3 victory over Dartmouth to cap the busy week. The Beach visits Cal State Fullerton on Saturday.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
No. 8 LBSU won five of six matches over three days at the Big West Conference in San Luis Obispo. The Beach had three sweeps and won a championship rematch against Hawai’i while duo Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah pushed their win streak to fifteen. They only dropped one set all weekend.
This weekend, LBSU (15-5) is at the Death Valley Invitational in Baton Rouge, La. to take on No. 10 Texas, No. 3 TCU, No. 7 Florida State and No. 12 LSU.
MEN’S GOLF
LBSU was the runner up by one stroke at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate in Tucson last week. Senior Clay Seeber finished in the Top 5, and the Beach has now finished Top 4 in all three spring tournaments.
This weekend, the Beach is at The Goodwin hosted by Stanford.
BASEBALL
The Dirtbags (8-15, 2-7) could only get one win over the weekend at UC San Diego in Big West action. LBSU hosts UC Santa Barbara this weekend.
