Lakewood boys’ soccer waited an extra day and 80+ minutes to win its CIF Southern Section Division 5 opener against El Rancho 3-2 in overtime on Friday at Pioneer High School.
Osiel Morales and Jayden Hodges scored for the Lancers in regulation, and then Michael Gutierrez scored the game-winner in overtime.
Lakewood was supposed to play this game on Thursday, but it was rescheduled because of the rain storm.
The Lancers will host Northwood in the second round on Saturday at 3 p.m.
