Long Beach State Women’s Basketball Falls To Hawai’i

A late run from Big West Conference leader Hawai’i handed Long Beach State women’s basketball a 72-65 loss on Thursday night. The game was played at the Gold Mine gym on the campus of Long Beach State.

LBSU guard Savannah Tucker scored a game-high 19 points while teammate Jada Crawshaw added 12 points to go with a team-high six rebounds and four assists. Rachel Loobie chipped in 10 points.

The Beach (12-11, 8-6) falls to sixth place in the conference standings while Hawai’i (18-6, 12-2) stays in first place.

Ritorya Tamilo scored a team-high 15 points for Hawai’i.

LBSU led 38-33 at halftime, and Tucker hit back-to-back threes to extend the lead until Hawai’i went on an 8-0 run to go up 47-46 after holding the Beach scoreless for over three minutes.

Hawai’i turned up the defensive heat in the fourth quarter and held LBSU to 2-for-17 shooting in the last 10 minutes. The Rainbow Wahine went on a 7-0 run and controlled the final few minutes to take the 72-65 win.

Next week, LBSU will host UC Riverside (11-13, 7-7) on Thursday before heading to UC Santa Barbara (13-10, 7-6) on Saturday afternoon.

Men’s Basketball

LBSU (7-19, 3-11) had its comeback fall short in another narrow Big West loss at Hawai’i on Thursday night 62-60. The Beach is on a nine-game losing streak but their last two losses were decided by less than three points.

Guard TJ Wainwright scored 13 of his game-high 20 points for LBSU  in the second half.

LBSU is 10th place in the 11-team Big West and visits fourth-place UC Riverside on Thursday.
