Wrestling: Millikan Dominates as Moore League Grapplers Shine at League Finals

After winning their 15th straight Moore League title, the Millikan boys’ wrestling program continued to shine as the Rams took eight league titles at the Moore League Finals Saturday at Wilson.

It was a dominating performance by Millikan boys, who won eight of the matches after having 10 athletes reach the finals match in their weight class.

Outside of regulars Chris Anguiano and Tannor Costello, the Rams had fresh faces take their first title and make a statement of Millikan’s dominance in the Moore League.

While the Rams dominated, there were some special moments for the rest of the league.

At Poly, senior Nathan Itchon won his fourth league title becoming the first Jackrabbit and fourth athlete in Moore League history to win all four years of competing.

Joining Itchon, Knox Espinoza won his second title after bumping up to the 113 division. Alberto Olague also went up a weightclass and won the 175 title after being a runner up at 165 last season.

One of the feel-good moments of the day was Cabrillo’s captain Jacob Castillo winning the 120 title to become the first Jaguar in school history to win a Moore League finals crown.

“It was a great moment,” Millikan coach Blake Lovato said via text. “I’m glad I got to see it.”

The Moore League will now turn their attention to the CIF Southern Section individuals that take place this weekend.
