For the second consecutive season, the Cabrillo Jaguars are headed to the playoffs. Thanks to their 54-47 victory over the Wilson Bruins on Monday night, the Jags are guaranteed to finish in fourth place or better in the Moore League, which gives them an automatic bid into the postseason.
Cabrillo (17-10, 6-5) got a dozen points from both Aden Jones and Kinsey Obue in the win, plus nine apiece from seniors Lincoln Dean and Mason Johnson.
The 17 wins represent a new program best for the regular season, and the Jags are just one win shy of their record win total of 18 from last season. Cabrillo hosts Long Beach Poly on Tuesday night, and if they can hand the Jackrabbits their first league loss of the season, they can still tie with Lakewood for the third-place spot in league.
The Moore League’s top four teams will be Poly, Millikan, Lakewood, and Cabrillo, and Jordan will need to hope for an at-large bid to the playoffs. The Panthers are guaranteed to finish the regular season at .500 or better, making them eligible for at-large consideration.
The CIF-SS boys’ basketball brackets will be released this Saturday.
