HIGH SCHOOL

Juan Vasquez, Millikan Soccer

Millikan captain Juan Vasquez scored his 11th goal of the season in a big win over Wilson last week, which kept the Rams undefeated and in first place in the Moore League standings nearing the midway point.

Jovani Ruff, Long Beach Poly Basketball

Long Beach Poly senior Jovani Ruff averaged 20 points per game in three Moore League wins last week, keeping Poly in first place and continuing his climb towards No. 1 in the all-time city scoring ranks. Ruff was also named a nominee to the McDonald’s All-American Game.

Jah’asharee Moore, Jordan Basketball

Jah’asharee Moore had a game-high 23 points for Jordan in the Panthers’ win over Wilson, which keeps Jordan in the playoff hunt in fifth place, a half game back of the Bruins.

Alexandra Rios, Millikan Soccer

Alexandra “Furby” Rios had another big night on Tuesday with a pair of goals in Millikan’s win over Wilson. That’s now three goals for the sophomore in the Rams’ last two huge Moore League matchups.

JoJo Wicker, Millikan Basketball

Wicker had a big night with a game-high 26 points in a win over Cabrillo last week. He led a trio of 20-point scorers for Millikan as Jeremiah Hunt finished with 23 and Tariq Bridges had 20.

He's won numerous awards for his writing as well as the CIF Southern Section’s Champion For Character Award, and is the author of three books about Long Beach history.
