Wilson sophomore Sacha Zalamea received a major national honor last week, as she was named one of the Top Performers from USA Softball’s U16 National Team Selection Event. Zalamea not only started for the Bruins last year as a freshman, she was one of the best players in the city, earning first-team All-Moore League honors.
The Selection Event was held in Vero Beach, Florida in December, and as one of the 18 Top Performers in the U16 group, Zalamea is now eligible to be selected to the U16 National Team, with rosters expected to be announced in the next few weeks.
More than 400 athletes from across the country participated in the Selection Event, which USA Softball refers to as the “Pipeline to the Women’s National Team.”
