A last-minute goal from Ivan Cervantes Vega proved to be the game-winner for Millikan in the championship final of the Huntington Beach tournament on Monday night.
Millikan got goals from Cervantes Vega and Juan Vasquez in the 2-1 win over Montclair in the last of five tournament games for the Rams. They beat Godinez, Marquez, Highland (AZ), Huntington Beach and Montclair by a combined score of 10-1.
“It was a real program victory,” Millikan coach Jeff Schofield said. “We had so many guys missing through injuries and finishing club commitments. We had 25 players play meaningful minutes over the course of the tournament, including seven sophomores on the field at the same time in the semifinal. I’m really proud of the team for their commitment to work hard, their passion, and willingness to compete to win.”
Millikan starts Moore League play on Wednesday, Dec. 18 by hosting Compton.
