The thrilling postseason run for Long Beach City College men’s soccer continued on Tuesday night with a 1-0 double overtime win over Fullerton in the third round of the Southern California Regionals. It is the second consecutive double overtime victory for the Vikings (18-3-3) who will host Cerritos in the fourth round on Saturday.
After 116 scoreless minutes, and less than four minutes before a penalty kick shootout, Nikolas Huebel provided the assist to Hector Tellez’s game-winning goal. LBCC goalkeeper Abraham Ramirez made four saves while recording the clean sheet.
LBCC outshot Fullerton 12-8 and limited the visitors to one shot in overtime. The hotly contested match also had 37 total fouls called with nine yellow cards.
The Vikings’ SoCal Regionals meeting with Cerritos will be the third this season. On Oct. 8, they played to a scoreless draw at Cerritos. In the SCC Tournament semifinal earlier this month, LBCC won a penalty kick shootout on its way to winning the conference championship.
LBCC is a win away from the State Championship tournament.
