Compton Girls’ Soccer Preview

The Compton girls’ soccer team is looking to elevate their program under head coach Milton Huezo Valencia.

“[Our first goal] would be to be able to create a strong program with two levels. The second goal would be to be prepared to compete with the teams within our league at a higher level so we can put Compton on the map. Another goal for this season is to create a place where all players are respected and challenged to their full potential.”

Venus Christine Quezada will be a key middle/forward for Compton

The Tarbabes have a young but bright roster with no seniors while 10 of their 15 players are underclassmen. Valerie Martinez and Miah Ramirez will be two key freshmen while juniors Ericka Soto and Venus Quezada will look to bring some experience. They have no seniors on their roster.

The Tarbabes picked up three wins last year but they’re still searching for their first Moore League win since 2022.

“For our teams to have great communication skills on the soccer field,” said Valencia of the key for his young team. “For them to have great team cohesion and be able to work as a unit on the soccer field.  Also, being able to compete at a higher level and win at least half our season games.”

For a team with no seniors, Compton is looking to set the foundation this year before returning back to their home field at the remodeled campus next school year. The Tarbabes have been playing off-campus for multiple years during construction.

Compton has already drawn in their two matchups against Compton Centennial this season and will start Moore League play at Cabrillo on Dec. 5. They face Lakewood on Dec. 12 and Jordan on Dec. 17.
