First-year Lakewood girls’ volleyball coach Adam Wadley isn’t having the October he’d hoped for as a sports fan, with his Yankees down 3-0 in the World Series to the Dodgers. But as a coach, it’s been a dream start to Wadley’s career as the head coach of the Lancers–they’ve won their first two playoff games and will now host a quarterfinal match on Wednesday at 6pm.
“I get to coach a quarterfinal match at Lakewood…I can’t ask anything better than that,” said Wadley.
The lancers played a delayed second-round match on Monday, defeating Summit on the road in the Division 5 bracket in five sets.
The Lancers were led by Fresno State commit Lala Hall, who had an eye-popper stat line with 19 kills, 21 digs, and two blocks. Carly Bercero had 36 assists and 13 digs, and Alizae Leilua had eight kills and 17 digs. Aaryn Hunter and Jenna Smith each had nine kills and combined for nine blocks as well.
“I’m just so proud of my girls and coaches,” said Wadley. “They both deserve all the credit for tonight.”
Lakewood will host La Salle Wednesday at 6pm, trying to advance to Saturday’s semifinal round.
