HIGH SCHOOL

Kade Casillas, Lakewood Football

Lakewood’s Kade Casillas led the Lancers to a big win over Compton with five total touchdowns. The Lancers visit Long Beach Poly this week with high hopes of a first win over the Jackrabbits since 2009.

Anthony League, Millikan Football

Millikan running back Anthony League continues to produce at a high level, with three rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown in a big Millikan win over Cabrillo.

Julius “Juju” Johnson, Long Beach Poly Football

Long Beach Poly sophomore Julius “Juju” Johnson was a star for the Jackrabbits in a win over Jordan, with a receiving touchdown (26 yards), a 60 yard punt return to the five yard line, lockdown coverage on defense–and he even served as Poly’s longsnapper.

Lala Hall, Lakewood Volleyball

Senior leader Lala Hall led Lakewood with 13 kills in the Lancers’ scrappy four set win over Millikan last week. Hall is a Fresno State verbal commit.

Kristen Dear, Long Beach Poly Volleyball

Kristen Dear had 13 kills (on .764 hitting) and four blocks in Poly’s big win over Wilson last week to put them in sole possession of first place. The senior middle blocker is committed to Howard University.

COLLEGE

Aurora Schuck, Long Beach State Soccer

Redshirt Sophomore Aurora Schuck recorded back-to-back shutouts last week. After keeping a clean sheet against Cornell, Schuck made eight saves in the Big West opener against UC Riverside. She has not allowed a goal in 243 minutes played dating back to September 8. 

Jobe De La Cruz, LBCC Soccer

LBCC sophomore forward Jobe De La Cruz, a Wilson alum, has been a star for the Vikings. He scored game winning goal Tuesday in 3-1 victory over Antelope Valley, and followed that up Friday with another game winning goal versus #17 nationally ranked San Bernardino Valley College in 4-1 victory.

Mike Guardabascio
An LBC native, Mike Guardabascio has been covering Long Beach sports professionally for 13 years, with his work published in dozens of Southern California magazines and newspapers. He's won numerous awards for his writing as well as the CIF Southern Section’s Champion For Character Award, and is the author of three books about Long Beach history.
