Kai and Zoie Fontenot have played on the same soccer team ever since they were in kindergarten, and the Wilson juniors are planning to continue that tradition in college after verbally committing to the University of Miami earlier this month.
dZoie is a speedy forward, Kai is a solid defender and they both have a great feel for the game after playing with elite clubs like the Slammers FC ECNL squad. They were both recruited by quality programs across the nation, but Miami was one of the only schools to recruit the twin sisters together as a package deal.
“I think having Zoe with me will make the college experience better for me personally because I won’t be home sick because I’ll have a piece of home with me,” Kai said.
“My parents love that they can visit us at the same time,” Zoie added. “Going to a university is a different ball game than high school with a lot of adversity, so for Kai and I to be able to do that together would be such a benefit for both of us.”
Both sisters said that playing for a school in a Power 5 conference was important to them, and Miami in the ACC met those requirements.
“You kind of get a feeling when you visit colleges that this is the place for you, and that was the feeling we both had (at Miami),” Zoie said.
Kai wants to study sports medicine and physical therapy at Miami, while Zoie wants to do something in the field of medical biology. But first, both of them said they’re very excited for their junior and seniors seasons as Wilson Bruins.
