Looking for a final tune-up before starting Big West play, the Long Beach State women’s volleyball team dropped a four-set match to undefeated Washington 21-25, 25-23, 25-11 and 25-16.

In the first set, the Beach was primed to hand the Huskies (9-0) their first loss as senior Natalie Glenn terrorized the Huskies blockers on her way to 9 kills as the Beach took win 25-21.

Glenn was able to keep the Huskies off balance on her way to a .750 hitting percentage in the first set.

In the second set, Washington went on a 6-0 run forcing Long Beach State to take an early timeout.

“Yeah, set one was good for us,” Long Beach State coach Natalie Reagan said. “We were happy with that set. There’s also a lot of meat left on the bone. So we talk about trust. We’re trusting our training and playing Long Beach State volleyball and there’s a lot of room here for us to continue to perform like ourselves.”

The Huskies’ momentum extended their lead to 12-4 before taking an eventual 25-11 win to knot the match at set apiece.

LBSU (4-4) was able to get some momentum going in their way in the third set as Ella Lomigora attacked the middle of the Washington defense that gave Glenn more opportunities to attack. But, the Huskies attack of Emoni Bush, Audra Wilmes and Madi Endsley had timely attacks that led to a 25-23 win for Washington.

“She brings a very calm presence on the court. Like this game is just the first game, and I kind of felt kind of nervous,” Glenn said of Lomigora’s play.

Lomigora had nine kills while Glenn finished with her fourth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 12 digs.

After a quick 4-1 start in the fourth, Washington led wire-to-wire to take the set 25-16.

“This weekend is a part of our journey,” Reagan said. “The ups and the downs. And it’s something that, you know, we talk a lot about learning from our losses. And also learning from our wins. And so making sure that we find a way to learn from this.”

The Beach will continue their preseason tournament when they take on Washington State Friday night.
