The Moore League schedule gets underway on Friday when Lakewood hosts Compton in one of three local games. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Lakewood (2-2) has collected all manner of results this season. The Lancers earned a quality win over Carlsbad in the opener, dominated St. Anthony on the road, got handled by Edson at home and lost to rival Mayfair in overtime last week.

Compton (2-2) is also .500 with mixed results while working out of a spread offense inserted by coach Clavin Bryant’s classic double wing. Compton scored big wins over Rancho Dominguez and Centennial before lopsided losses to Paramount and Dorsey.

“I knew it would be like this when we started a new system,” Bryant said after the Paramount loss. “We were like a lighter, we flicker, flicker, but we can’t be the flame yet. The games are a lot longer now since we are throwing more. It gives us a quicker chance to score, which I do like and starting to learn.”

Compton won this matchup three years in a row from 2019-21 but Lakewood has won the last two games by a combined score of 92-27.
