HIGH SCHOOL

Fernando Leanos, Cabrillo Football

Cabrillo quarterback Fernando Leanos had an impressive night early in the season, leading the Jags to a win over LA Jordan. Leanos had a 70% completion rate and threw five touchdowns in the win.

Anthony League, Millikan Football

Anthony League finished the night with 179 rushing yards on 15 carries with four touchdowns to lead the Rams to a big win. He also caught two passes for 31 yards in an impressive showing against Carson.

Diontae Dill, Compton Football

Compton’s Diontae Dill is excited to “stretch his legs” with the Tarbabes’ new offense and it showed in a blowout win over Compton Centennial as he had four catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Aaya McLyn, Long Beach Poly Flag Football

Aaya McLyn is committed to Washington State for soccer, but the Jackrabbit senior is probably the city’s best flag football player as well. Last week in two shutout wins over Millikan and Compton to open Moore League play, McLyn threw four TDs as a quarterback, caught six passes as a receiver, and had four interceptions as a safety.

COLLEGE

Marikay Schwab, Long Beach State Cross Country

Senior Marikay Schwab won the season-opening Waves’ Invite over the weekend. The first LBSU women’s individual winner since 2022, she ran 13.04 on the 4k course.
