Preview: Millikan vs. Carson, Football

Thursday night’s matchup between Millikan and Carson is a tale of two completely different situations. The Rams come into the game having dropped their season opener a week ago at Newbury Park, meanwhile Carson is riding high coming off of a blowout win against Hawthorne. The two face off at Millikan on Thursday night at 7 pm.

If there was just one positive take away from the Rams season opener, the run game would certainly be it. The Rams handed the ball off 36 times last Friday for 236 yards, and they’ll likely lean back on their RB duo of Anthony League and Xavier Jones. League led the team with 105 rushing yards on Friday while Jones ran for 92 yards including a 46-yard TD scamper.

On defense though, the Rams certainly had a forgettable night against Newbury Park and four star QB Brady Smigiel’s six touchdowns. The good news? That’s probably the best QB they’ll face all year. The Rams entered that game as heavy underdogs, however they come into week two ranked No. 166 in California according to Maxpreps, four spots ahead of Carson at 170.

Millikan will have to deal with the Colt’s running game led by RB Kameryn Hurst, who rushed for 109 yards on eight carries last Friday while plowing in for two touchdowns. Quarterback Chris Fields and RB Tytus Salagi also rushed for over 65 yards and a touchdown each. Fields also threw a TD in their 56-0 win against Hawthorne.
