We’ve got an intriguing local matchup on Thursday night as St. Anthony welcomes the Lakewood Lancers to nearby Clark Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The Lancers are riding high after their 20-17 win over Carlsbad last Friday night and will look to win their first road game of the season. While these teams haven’t played recently, there is certainly some familiarity. Lakewood has three starters who were at St. Anthony a year ago–running back JoJo Apisala, DL Soloalofa Lepaga-Ili, and LB Troy Norried.

Apisala ran for over 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his season opener, and he’ll surely want to perform well against his former teammates.

That also provides motivation for the St. Anthony defense, as the Saints are in search of their first win of the Jeff Magdaleno era. In their season opener last week, the Saints fell 47-15 against a solid Mount Miguel team.

St. Anthony took the lead in that game on a TD pass from Nate Furlow to Marco Transfiguracion, but couldn’t keep up the scoring pace. The Saints will hope to have more success in the running game against the Lancers, but will need to overcome Lakewood’s solid size up front.

The Saints have won their last two games against Moore League opponents, defeating Wilson in 2021 and 2022.
