On the Westside coach James Kainoa is looking forward to seeing how Cabrillo develops throughout the season during his fourth year leading the program.
The team will have a mix of experienced leadership and youth. Last season, the Jaguars went 4-12 and finished fifth in Moore League play.
“With a significant influx of young players,” Kainoa said, “This season promises to be a blend of growth, challenge, and excitement.”
The numbers are up at Cabrillo this season as they’ve seen their biggest freshman class since 2020.
“We anticipate a-lot of bumps and growing pains,” Kainoa said. “But we’re approaching the season with enthusiasm and confidence, knowing that our future on the Westside is bright.”
Senior Liz Miranda is back for Cabrillo and will provide leadership on the court as the team’s senior and captain. Along with Miranda, senior Kaelyn Bush, junior Kyra Tepa and sophomore Makayla Means will be relied on for their varsity experience.
Kainoa expects sophomore Samira Tucker, freshman Evy Gibbs, senior Amarianna Burns, junior Carnijah Kirkland, and seniors Faith Fitzpatrick and Sam Rodriguez to fill the rest of the roster and contribute this season.
“On the court, we aim to play big girl ball,” Kainoa said. “We’re ready to take on whatever comes our way.”
