It was a tough start to the season for a young group of Jackrabbits as Long Beach Poly took a long trip north and ended up on the wrong side of a 63-20 scoreline against Folsom High on Friday night.
After the host Bulldogs scored the game’s first touchdown, the visitors were able to take a 7-6 lead thanks to a 12-yard TD scramble by junior Deuce Jefferson, who took a QB draw to the left and found the end zone.
It was the first of three touchdowns on the night for Jefferson, who linked up with classmate Kamarie Smith for a pair of second-half scores. Unfortunately for Poly, those scores were too little too late after Folsom opened up a 27-7 lead at halftime.
The first TD pass from Jefferson to Smith went for 60 yards on Poly’s second drive of the third quarter, as the duo linked up on a post pattern up the seam and Smith used his elite speed to take it the distance, cutting it to a 27-14 score.
Folsom increased their lead to 63-14 thanks to a pair of defensive touchdowns and a safety, as things got away from the Jackrabbits in the second half.
However, Smith was able to collect one final highlight, taking a short pass along the Poly sideline and making multiple defenders miss before racing 49 yards for his second TD, making the final score 63-20 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Poly will look to get in the win column next Friday night as they host Lincoln High at Vets.
