The St. Anthony football program will get an early look at where they stand when they take on Mount Miguel during the Saints’ season opener Friday night at Clark Field.
The Matadors bring a talented squad including five-star wide receiver Brandon Arrington as they return to the field fresh off their 2023 CIF San Diego Section Division 4 title. Arrington is a 6-foot-2 speedster who’s rated as a Top 10 player in California for the junior class. He won the CIF State title in the 100m and the 200m earlier this spring as a sophomore, making him one of the top sprinters in the nation.
He’ll also have 6-foot-3 junior DJ Wilkins on the other side of the field putting pressure on the St. Anthony secondary. Junior Parris Vernon is another returning playmaker for Mount Miguel, after scoring 12 receiving touchdowns and 6 rushing touchdowns as a sophomore last season.
It will be the first game for the Saints under coach Jeff Magdaleno and he’ll look to counter the Matadors’ high-flying offense by relying on executing their game plan.
That new system will be led by the team’s senior leadership including Nate Martinez who will see action at running back and linebacker.
St. Anthony will have the reliable Jasiah Lolesio-Pua at receiver and defensively will look to Jeremiah Taufi to lead as the Saints tune up before it’s time to defend their Del Rey League title.
