Bring the party back to the Westside, as Jaguar football returns. Cabrillo opens up the fall against the Artesia Pioneers Friday at 7pm, looking to start the 2024 season strong at home.
“We have a couple key returning seniors, but we have a lot of great young guys that are looking to fill [new roles] and hopefully improve the team,” said head coach Shane Gonzales in our preview.
Some of the key returners, for big plays and bigger leadership, include senior running back Antonio Elam, senior athlete Isaiah Miranda, and second team all-league defensive linemen Demeyon Love. Sophomore quarterback Fernando Leanos will also return to the helm, looking to continuously grow and lead Cabrillo’s offense.
The mindset for the Jaguars this year, according to Gonzales, is to get one percent better every day: “We’re just going to take it one game at a time, one play at a time and just try to get better every day, every play.”
Kick-off is at 7 P.M. at Cabrillo High School.
