For the Fridge: Los Altos 8s Win Cal Ripken SoCal State Tournament

The Los Altos 8s All Stars out of El Dorado Park won the Cal Ripken SoCal State Tournament earlier this month, punching their ticket to the Cal Ripken Regional Tournament in Rohnert Park.

The Long Beach boys were dominant in the State Tourney with 10-0 and 10-4 wins to reach the championship, where they played a thrilling 13-12 nine-inning game. Foster Marshman started the game on the mound, with Shane Fanning coming in to relieve him. After six regulation innings, the two teams were knotted at 10 runs apiece.

Giovanni Lembke took the mound and dominated, going three innings with no hits and three strikeouts, until Simi Valley scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth. But the three runs Los Altos scored in the top of the ninth (on RBIs by Jameson Lee, Jesé Hernandez, and Sebastian Scherwin) proved enough.

Los Altos advanced to the semifinals of the Regional Tournament in Rohnert Park before falling 7-3 to Elk Grove to end a very successful summer at 12-5 overall.

The team is Axel Aoun, Tyler Eaton, Shane Fanning, Jesé Hernandez, Giovanni Lembke, Foster Marshman, Gabriel Russo, Sebastian Scherwin, Wyatt Seiler, Kazuhiro Takehara, James Turner, and Jameson Lee. The team’s head coach was Todd Scherwin, assisted by Danny Aoun, Anthony Russo, and Nich Takehara.
