The Long Beach PONY 13s all stars out of Whaley Park are off to a great start this Summer, claiming the Region and Super Regional Tournaments to advance to this weekend’s Zone Tournament in West Hills.
After a second-place finish in the District Tournament, the Long Beach boys have ripped off eight straight wins to claim the Region and Super Regional Tournaments, proving themselves the best PONY program in Southern California. Connor Barragan threw a complete game shutout in the Super Regional championship, yielding just three hits and striking out seven. The runs were both scored by Nico Thiem, with Dylan Stubblebine getting an RBI knock.
Thiem is leading the team offensively this Summer with a .538 average, while Barragan and Makai Trueblood have both been studs on the mound, giving up just two earned runs in 40 innings of action.
The team is coached by Greg Moody, Matt Heavin, and Jeff Evans and the players are Leonard Graham, Noah Alves, Connor Barragan, Gavin Reyes, Brayton Paculba, Nico Thiem, Grady Sanchez, Parker Smith, Kai Ryan, Zach Reniff, Makai Trueblood, Kaenon Mulhearn, Austin Hapenney, Dylan Stubblebine, Ben Evans, and Matt Pinedo.
