For The Fridge: Long Beach Little League 11s Win District Title

The Long Beach Little League 11U All Stars recently won the Little League District 38 championship in thrilling fashion, defeating Lakewood Village 5-3 in a winner-take-all. The Long Beach boys lost to Village in the semifinals to fall into the loser’s bracket and had to win three straight games to take the district championship and move on to the sectional tournament.

After battling out of the loser’s bracket with a mercy rule win to reach the championship, LBLL beat Village 3-2 in a thriller, with Séa Alimahomed-Wilson starting on the mound and striking out seven. Long Beach scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the first including a two-run homerun by Kaiden Keimig.

That win set up a winner-take-all championship between Long Beach and Lakewood Village, which LBLL won 5-3. Jalen Tedesco and Drew Mallinger pitched for Long Beach, yielding just seven hits and three runs in the full six inning game. Angel Cruz was the hero for Long Beach with a three-rune homerun in the second inning that helped LBLL out to an early 4-0 lead, which their pitching made stand up.

Long Beach Little League is now off to sectionals where they’ll compete against the best around Southern California.

The team is coached by John Mallinger, who is assisted by Eddie Jimenez and Adriel Tedesco. The players are Séa Alimahomed-Wilson, Jace Degen, Sam Herr, Drew Mallinger, Angel Cruz, Joaquin Zarate, Owen O’Shea, Kaiden Keimig, Wade Foellmer, Jaxon Richards, Jackson Jimenez, and Jalen Tedesco.
