Thirty Long Beach Entries Qualify For This Weekend’s CIF State Track Finals

As usual, the Long Beach sports calendar is headed for a big finish up in Clovis this weekend as 30 entries from local high schools have qualified for the CIF State Track & Field Finals. Long Beach Poly is fresh off their CIF-SS Division 1 boys’ and girls’ double championship and Wilson’s boys’ team is fresh off a D1 title as well–both Jackrabbit and Bruin squads will be in contention for the CIF State team titles, with several athletes and relay groups competing for gold as well.

Qualifying went well for the Long Beach kids at last weekend’s CIF-SS Masters Meet, at Moorpark High, with lots of great marks and very few surprise misses. In addition to the score of Wilson and Poly athletes, Millikan has senior Jason Parra headed north with hopes of a state title in the 3200 (he finished second last year) and Jordan’s Jamar Andrews will compete in the triple jump.

The local athletes will compete Friday night at the state prelims, trying to make it to Saturday’s Finals Meet, the last day of competition in the 2023-24 school year.
