While their athletes didn’t bring home the hardware, it was still a strong day of action for Jordan, Lakewood, and Cabrillo, with epic performances at the CIF-SS Track & Field Finals at Moorpark High.
For the Panthers, head coach Sharaud Moore was pleased with how his two triple jumpers did. Samiya Stevens finished in sixth and will be an alternate into next week’s CIF-SS Masters Meet. Jamar Andrews finished fifth and qualified for next week’s Masters Meet.
“For Samiya, she got on the team because her brother was on the team and she struggled early on stepping out of his shadow,” said Moore. “I challenged her at the beginning of the season to be great—find your niche. And she really took the triple jump and she’s actually our current school record holder. I’m really proud of her.”
Moore was also thrilled with Andrews’ performance.
“It’s only his second year,” said Moore. “He’s a shoe-in for the State meet, he’s also the school record holder. Going forward he’ll be the anchor on our team—he’s a leader, he’s a Northside kid. He’s just a joy to coach.”
For Lakewood, senior Amaya Rice finished seventh in the 200 with a 11.84.
Cabrillo’s Lauren Farr has been the Jags’ school record holder in the shot put, and she finished fifth in Division 3 with a heave of 36-0.5.
