Emily Castano, Wilson Softball
Wilson ace Emily Castano was great against Long Beach Poly on Monday and led her team to victory with a complete game performance pitching, giving up just three runs.
Owen Waytas, Millikan Baseball
Owen Waytas did a nice job out of the Millikan bullpen to finish off a 5-2 win over Wilson to put the Rams atop the Moore League early, striking out four and giving up no runs in 3.1 IP.
Ava Schaffel, Millikan Softball
Senior Ava Schaffel pitched a complete game two-hit shutout for the Rams in a win over Poly last week, striking out eight in five innings.
Loren Webster, Wilson Track & Field
Junior Loren Webster jumped 20-1 to win the varsity long jump at the California Relays last week, setting a new personal best and breaking her own Wilson long jump school record.
Darieon Shufford, Long Beach Poly Track & Field
Freshman Darieon Shufford won the 400 meter dash title at the ASICS Laguna Beach Trophy Invitational, winning it in 49.97.
Kate Eckenrode/Simrin Adams, Wilson Volleyball
Wilson’s Kate Eckenrode and Simrin Adams remain undefeated on the season after leading the Bruins to a 3-2 win over Poly last week. They won their match 21-11, 21-13.
COLLEGE
Aboubacar Traore, Long Beach State Basketball
Traore was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Big West Championship after averaging 13.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game, leading Long Beach State to the NCAA Tournament and recording the first ever triple-double in Big West Championship history.
Simon Torwie, Long Beach State Volleyball
Long Beach State senior Simon Torwie won his second straight Big West Defensive Player of the Week award after dominating Hawaii in back-to-back wins over the top-ranked Warriors. Torwie averaged 2 blocks and 1.5 kills per set with a .500 hitting percentage.
