This Long Beach badminton recap is compiled from submissions.

Cabrillo vs. Millikan

Cabrillo opened their Moore League season with a 19-2 road victory over Millikan.

The Jaguar’s returning varsity singles players Joaquin Orozco (21-5, 21-6 and 21-5-21-15), Brian Habacon (21-3, 21-4 and 21-2, 21-12), and Jasmin Ramos (21-8, 21-5 and 21-11, 21-4) made quick work of their Ram opponents by winning their first two sets in each of their matches.

The Jaguar’s mixed doubles pairs also ran the table in all five of their matches over a much stronger Millikan team than last year.

“I was pleased to see their (Millikan’s) improvement, ” said Cabrillo coach Russian Galima.

Cabrillo’s boys’ doubles played the most hard fought matches of the night, winning each of their games in two sets by much smaller margins than their singles counterparts.

Wilson vs. Mira Costa

Wilson was defeated by visiting Mira Costa 18-3. Bruin singles player Abhishek Jain was the bright spot for Wilson, winning both his singles matches. Senior Susana Martinez and her partner Alexis Martinez handed the Mustangs their other defeat by beating Mira Costa’s number two girls’ doubles pair in a three-set nail biter 21-15, 12-21, 21-19.
