The Lakewood girls’ basketball team will try to make history today as the Lancers travel to Colony High at 12pm for their first-ever CIF Southern Section championship. The 27-5 Lancers are facing 20-12 Sherman Oaks Notre Dame as they try to make history by winning a CIF-SS title.
Lakewood has already made history with their deep playoff run–they’d never made the semifinals prior to this season and are now in the championship for the first time ever, with a ticket punched to their first ever CIF State playoffs as well. State brackets will be released Sunday evening, but the Lancers are hoping to have some shiny new rings ordered by then.
Lakewood has been led all year by the Moore League’s top player, Nyemah King, who scored 28 points in the semifinals, as well as their senior leader Cristina Jones, who had 25 points in the semifinals.
We’ll have live updates and full coverage from the game! Stay tuned.
