After receiving an at-large bid into the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs the Wilson Bruins made it count with a 2-1 overtime win at Huntington Beach in the first round on Wednesday.
With just a minute left in the overtime period before a penalty kick shootout, a Fernando Martinez corner kick was headed home by Randolph Corona for the golden goal.
“Our boys stuck to the game plan and never quit,” Wilson coach CJ Brewer said. “Great day to be a Bruin!”
Huntington Beach took a 1-0 lead off a counter attack in the last minute before halftime.
Wilson equalized in the 70th minute thanks to Lucca Pires.
The Bruins host Pacifica (Oxnard) in the second round on Friday at 5 p.m.
