The quality of Moore League boys’ soccer was revealed when the CIF Southern Section playoff brackets were released on Saturday as five local teams prepare for the postseason in elite divisions.
Millikan (13-3-6) is coming off its second consecutive Moore League title and will start the Division 1 playoffs by hosting El Dorado on Wednesday.
“I’m glad this group of seniors that I started with are finishing as champions and looking forward to the CIF playoffs,” Millikan coach Jeff Schofield said.
El Dorado (7-7-8) finished second in the Crestview League after losing a key game at Canyon in the regular season finale.
Long Beach Poly (13-4-3) finished the season strong to climb into a second place finish but has to visit Citrus Belt champions Cajon (14-3-5) in the first round on Wednesday.
Cabrillo (13-7-2) is also in Division 1 because of recent success and will start at Mountain Pass champion Citrus Hill (18-3-2) in the first round.
Lakewood (11-3-6) had a great season to finish third in league and will start the Division 4 playoffs at Mountain Valley League champion Rubidoux (9-2-4) on Wednesday.
Wilson (9-6-3) grabbed a well-earned at-large bid into Division 2 and will travel to Wave League champion Huntington Beach (6-8-5) in the first round.
“Now it’s our time to show what we have learned and who we are to the community,” Wilson coach CJ Brewer said. “The boys are playing for respect. They want their shot at bringing home something to show for all their hard work this year.”
